Piacenza, what else?

School: Liceo Statale “Melchiorre Gioia”, Piacenza Class: 3a Scientifico A Edexel Double Award scientific course (where Sciences are taught in English as well as English Language and Literature) Video title: 'Piacenza, what else?' Video length: 4 minutes Together with our English teacher, Mrs Mariella Marzani, we decided to enter this competition for three main reasons: to try our English out, to get ourselves in the game and to show the fascinating attractions of our city. The video provides a general presentation of Piacenza, focusing on the features of the most representative and suggestive itineraries. It is a provincial town located in the so called Po Valley, on the border with Lombardy. Piacenza was founded in 218 AD by the Romans, who named it 'Pleasant Place' (Placentia), as a military outpost against Barbarian invasions, due to the important strategic location on the river Po. Piacenza is a land full of natural beauties, but also rich in history, art and culture, and its well-known cookery tradition. The video is presented by two speakers (Tiffany Testa, Sabrina Ye) who give a brief description of the most important town landmarks while riding on their bikes around the city. They provide cultural and historical information about Piacenza such as, for example, Palazzo Gotico (Medieval Town Hall), Duomo (the ancient Romanesque Cathedral), Palazzo Farnese, Sant'Antonino Church, Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery and the Municipal Theatre. The voice-over technique is also used to get a 360° view of the places. All the students have taken part in the creation of the video, which mainly consists of three phases: 1. The planning phase to set the over-vision of the project 2. The production phase: live recordings of the scenes by the five skilled technicians of our class (Riccardo Botti, Tommaso Cattivelli, Tommaso Checchini, Alex Marciuc, Jacopo Pozzi) with their professional equipment (drone, digital video camera, lighting and sound equipment and our school recording studio) 3. The post-production phase: the organisation and the digital video editing of the material into the final video
