Liceo S.S. Tullio Levi Civita Class IV B “Speaker of the year” contest SCRIPT “The hidden wonders of Rome” INTRO Narrator: each person who visits Rome decides to go to certain most famous monuments and places, such as St. Peter, where the Pope lives; the Coliseum, one of the seven wonders of the world and the biggest ancient amphitheater. Imperial Fora, monumental squares built in the centre of the city or the Trevi fountain, the biggest fountain of Rome, where you can make a wish throwing a coin in the water...But... (sequence of photos) N: I bet you have never seen this! (photo of the clock) N: Don’t you really know about it? (video) N: this is a water clock! It's located in Villa Borghese, one of the biggest mansions of Rome and it's powered by the water of the lake underneath. (someone goes for a walk in the villa) N: Villa Borghese is one of the biggest historic parks of Rome, along with Villa Ada and Villa Pamphilj, and it's full of monuments and temples. A famous one is the Esculapio's temple, built in 1786. Esculapio was a Greek chemist who was said to be someone who resurrected people. This ionic style temple stands on a lake, where you can rent a boat to cross it during the hot days. (another video) N: in Villa Doria Pamphilj, which is the biggest public park with its 184 hectares, originated by the Pamphilj family in 1600, there is the head office of the official representation of the Italian government. It's famous for the natural scenery and for the wonderful places you can find inside of it, such as the Secret Garden (a big labyrinth), the Cupid fountain and this beautiful Chapel, thought by Carlo Fontana. (photo of the chair) N: and do you know what's this?...No, it's not a simple chair...(zoom out)...it's the work of the sculptor Giancarlo Neri "the writer", a chair with extra large table, 9 meters high, exposed in Villa Ada some time ago. This is the second largest Villa, important for the large number of archeological finds and its breathtaking scenery. (video) N: another amazing green place is the "garden of oranges" which takes this name thanks to the presence of orange trees. There is a particular marble fountain and a wonderful view of Rome and of St. Peter's dome, with a small optical illusion. Look...too big...too small! (cool) (video) N: near the "garden of oranges" you can find the "Keyhole" of Rome. In fact looking through this popular slot of the door of the priory of the knights of Malta, you can see the most beautiful and picturesque view of the city. (I know. It's gorgeous) (video) N: these are amazing places which people must have the patience to look for because they’re not so visible. so...what are you waiting for? aren't you curious? Come here and visit the hidden wonders of Rome!...if you are able not to get lost...
