WELCOME TO CROTONE AND CIRO' MARINA

Crotone is a very popular place for tourists. Thousands of people come here every year from all over the world. Crotone has got lots of tourist attractions. It is situated in the southern part of Italy, in Calabria. Its population is about 60.000 but many people coming from all over the world live in this area. The city of Crotone is divided into two: the Old Town and the New Town. In the Old Town you can see impressive buildings, the Civic Museum and the Castle. In the New Town there are modern shops, hotels, bars and cafés. Crotone is one of the most attractive cities in Calabria. Here are the top tourist attractions: Capocolonna with its rural landscape, the Column and the Castle. Capocolonna is a very interesting place where a Doric Temple dedicated to Hera Lacinia was erected in the 4 th century A.D. It is considered the most important area in the whole Hellenic World. The Column and the Castle represent the symbols of the City. In 1531 the Emperor Charles V ordered the construction of the new fortified town walls and of the Castle. Inside the Tower "Aiutante" there is the Civic Museum where you can see lots of interesting things belonging to the most prestigious families in the citv. Crotone was chosen by Pythagoras as the ideal centre to realize his activities. There are a lot of restaurants in Crotone and people cook good food at home. "Pecorino'' is one of the most famous products in this area. The Patron Saint is Saint Denis and his feast day is on 9th October. Another important feast is in May; it is a special feast in honour of " Madonna of Capocolonna''. Rino Gaetano, a famous singer, was from Crotone and you can see his statue in a small square near the "Navy League". Tourists reach Ciro Marina because they are attracted by its delicious wine drunk ail over the world. It is known as ''the capital" of Calabrian wine thanks to which it is enumerated among the most important cities of wine. Here you can see one of the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea.
