Beautiful places,cultures and traditions,for the road of Salento

In this descriptions, we will talk about places,cultures, traditions of the particularly and lively area in the south-east of Italy: Salento. Salento peninsula, Land of Otranto, the heel of Italy ... These terms identify the same vast plain (including the provinces of Lecce and, in large part, Brindisi and Taranto) that separates the two seas, Ionian and Adriatic, which then we meet the extreme south, in Santa Maria di Leuca. Inside, the landscape is characterized by true expanses of olive trees interrupted only by low stone walls that delimit the different properties and center of which rise the typical farms. It hits the sea coloring that is charged with a deep blue and his gaze turns to the long, sandy beaches and the Adriatic Ionian jagged coastline are also characterized by the frequent presence of watchtowers built more ages before. Towers like the ones found in Santa Caesarea, reminiscent of a period of Norman rule, based mainly on the sighting marina, followed by a turquoise domination period, which allowed the construction itself of artistic works as the same Church that overlooks the sea. Lecce, tidy and organized city with a very rich cultural heritage is the main symbol of Baroque art, along with the Gothic and Byzantine. Otranto, with its old town very characteristic and vast views of the Adriatic, offers a wonderful view, pleasant even from the coastal view of the harbor in which stands an internal lighthouse .Otranto, boasts of a particular area, characterized a magnificent flora and fauna, where there are different quarry better defined as quarries bauxite .Gallipoli the beautiful city, is known as the pearl of the Ionian, and it certainly has all the titles. Is enriched with varied coastal area and tourist destination is also the island of St. Andrew, unique in its charm. But characterizing is the stand of the village environment where different cultures and where concentrates a symbolic historical center. Santa Maria di Leuca (views over the two seas from the top of the lighthouse square) small town, is the meeting between the two seas, where the head is a lighthouse .It have also,a fantastic bridge the ”ponte ciolo”, tall 30 metres,where you have a cool visual. But between the tourist destinations of Salento, Castro is the most interessant. It have a port area wide, is the symbolic element of Norman rule, since even today there are remnants of the fortress of Hauteville and is idenficated as a place of approval of Aeneas, the Greek mythological figure. In the last period as a result of archaeological excavations, archaeologists found the statue of the goddess Minerva (is a realistic stretch of Aeneas legend) even though it was not intact. In this brief description, I have not even mentioned the people and the food: they are friendly people, helpful from the affable and open character, ready to offer a hot meal as stated by the customary Mediterranean diet. Already this wealth alone would merit a trip to the land of Otranto.
